Steve Buchbinder Obtains Approvals for Local Businesses
The past twelve months have been very active for Steve Buchbinder with respect to municipal approvals in the City of Newton.
In December of 2009 the Newton Board of Aldermen granted a special permit for Panera Bread‘s new site in Newton Centre. This matter attracted a great deal of interest both within the City of Newton and beyond. Approximately two hundred people attended the public hearing held before the Land Use Committee of the Newton Board of Aldermen in October of 2009. Editorials also appeared in both the Newton Tab (urging approval) and The Boston Globe (urging defeat). Ultimately, the full Board of Aldermen approved the item by a vote of 23 to 1.
Steve also obtained special permits this fall for two other restaurants in Newton Centre. Pie Bakery and CafĂ© received permission to double its seating from 24 to 48 seats. The restaurant will close for renovations and then re-open as b Street with a new concept early in 2011. Bill’s Pizzeria received approval for an increase in seating from 33 to 57 seats. Additionally, in September of this year Steve obtained approval for an expansion of premises and an increase in seating from 64 to 114 seats for Fiorella’s Restaurant in Newtonville.
